Dumfries charity night

Dumfries charity night

Sep 27, 2021 | Fundraising

A huge shoutout to Becky and the Bob & Berts gang in Dumfries! They fundraised an incredible £1000 to help their friend Suzy get a disability bike. Isn’t that awesome?

Suzy is a Dumfries local who has been stuck indoors for most of the last 18 months due to care cuts. She got to experience a ride on a rental disability bike during the summer, and since then, people across the town have been working hard to get the funds together to purchase one.

The 23-year-old had her 35 hour a week care package cut at the start of the pandemic after the company providing it went bust. Dumfries and Galloway Council allegedly told the family they are struggling to find new carers for Suzy due to staff shortages, so her family and the local community have taken matters into their own hands. Enola, 20, said “She is quite outdoorsy but the last year and a half she’s hardly been out because there isn’t that support. It’s affected her mental and physical health.”

Becky (Store Manager), who organised the event, said, “We’re absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Dumfries locals! It was an absolutely fab night for everyone involved. The best bit? It was Suzy’s birthday!”

Dave (Regional Manager, Scotland) added, “At Bob & Berts we always prioritise positive community engagement. Becky and the team are great examples of this practice. From this fundraiser, to the dozens of park benches around the town they volunteered to paint by hand when the council budget got cut, they are absolutely inspirational.”

With the £1000 raised by the Bob & Berts Dumfries gang being added to the community fundraising, they now have the money to make it happen. Well done to Becky and the team – you guys rock!
